Sadly, this blog is a bit sleepier than I'd like these days. Pop over here if you'd like to know why.

Fruit Sushi

Last weekend I was browsing through the latest Vegetarian Times on a quick weekend trip down to Seattle. Even though I was mesmerized by all the recipes, "Whoa... now look at this one!" I wasn't in the mood to drop $5 on a magazine, when I have unexplored cookbooks at home. So when I came to a recipe I couldn't live without I went down the tacky road. After several whines of "I wish I had a photocopier under my shirt" I took out a pen and paper and just started writing. It turns out I didn't need to write it down, because I couldn't stop thinking about it. All the thinking led to some changes and the creation of Fruit Sushi. (Frushi?)

I think the results were quite nice.

Fruit Sushi

What you need:
Banana, mango, vanilla soy yogurt, berries, y-shaped peeler

What you do:
slice banana in 1" pieces
peel long thin strips of mango
wrap mango around banana with the mango slightly taller
fill in the extra mango height with yogurt
top with a berry

Note: Slice all the mango as quickly as possible. If you wait too long, (like make a few then get ready to go to a party), by the time you begin again the mango will be difficult to slice.

How Does Your Garden Grow? Part 2

So much gardening has been happening here at The Homestead. It's wonderful. I've spent at least 20 hours digging, weeding, planting, and watering over the past 2 weeks.

We now have a seeded vegetable garden started in the greenhouse full of carrots, basil, cucumbers, and tomatoes, plus a seedling vegetable garden full of romaine, spinach, green beans, peas, and zucchini. And... tons of flowers. Snap dragons, daisies, nastursiams, sweet peas, cosmos, black eyed susans, begonias, etc. It was a planting frenzy last Saturday. On top of all that, we moved around our pretty(ish) junk!

Here's an array of photos.

The vegetables.
Planted!

6 stalks of corn! (Notice the mowed lawn? We found a lawn mower at a garage sale!)

Hen and chicks.

Rearranged junk!

It all ended with me looking like this:

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Want to know what a garden will look like if no one ventures in for approximately 8 months? (Ok first it was winter, then I was busy, then it was a crazy weather April...)

Garden Pre Weeding

I reserved today for an all out battle on the garden. I thought I might get to planting, but after 3 hours (3 podcasts of This American Life), I was ready for a break. Hopefully the planting will come tomorrow. I'm thinking veggies on one side, flowers on the other.

It looks better... right?

First Socks

Forever ago, I shared with you posts about my first sock... the lovely cuff, the beautiful heel. Well I finally finished the pair. And by finally, I mean, about a month ago. My intent was to block them before I blogged them... but really, it didn't look like that was actually going to happen.

So here are my unblocked socks. My first pair ever. You might notice that I ran out of my original yarn. I decided to just continue in a new color since they are really practice socks afterall. I've been wearing them as house slippers anyways.
